Defend Yourself With Krav Maga Oklahoma

By Margaret Cook

Nobody wants to find themselves walking alone late at night or trying to find their car in a dark parking lot by themselves. Scary stories about people being attacked in such situations are everywhere, which just adds to the anxiety. But if you learn how to defend yourself using Krav Maga Oklahoma, you will be prepared if you do ever find yourself the victim of an attack, which could truly save your life.

The two words Krav and Maga literally mean 'contact combat' in Hebrew, the language of Israel, where the technique was invented. This discipline is meant for self-defense in situations where someone is physically assaulting you. Using the techniques, you can fend them off, stun them and run away to safety so you can call the police.

There are plenty of self-defense techniques out there, but this is one of the best. The reason is that since the attacks are simple, you can learn a lot in a very short span of time. This is not something that takes years to master, so you can see results very quickly and defend yourself almost right away. Also, the process of learning is a great workout, so you will lose weight and build muscle.

This discipline is often taught to military and law enforcement personnel. In fact in Israel, where it was invented, it is taught to all military personnel as part of their basic training. Fortunately, you do not have to be a soldier or a cop to learn it. In fact, you don't need to have any formal martial arts training at all to learn. All fitness levels can join as well.

In order to be successful in these classes, you just need to show up and be willing to learn. Then combine all the moves together and practice them so you perfect them. The moves will all be broken down by the instructors so you can learn them in an efficient manner.

With Krav Maga, there is a certain mindset that helps you remember and execute your moves. When you are in an attack situation, your nerves and fear may make you forget your moves. However, with the right mindset, you can not only remember, but execute them easily to help you stop your attacker in his tracks.

There are many local studios and gyms that can get you started on your path to learning and eventually mastering Krav Maga. They usually have classes with other people, some large and some small. However, if you would prefer a private class, many instructors are willing to have a one-on-one session for an extra fee. The amount of classes per week depends upon your schedule. Many are once or twice a week, possibly more.

Before you sign up for your first class, ask if there is a chance to get in on a free trial class. Many gyms offer one session for free or discounted so that you can try it out and see if it is right for your needs. If it is, then you can look at the class schedule and see if it fits into yours, then sign up to help protect yourself.
