By Virginia Reynolds

Keeping records of what one has taught is very important for a tutor. There are documents that each and every trained teacher ought to have, so as to keep track of what has been taught and what would be taught. These documents should be written even by games teachers. An example of the document is hockey lesson plans which has the following advantages to the trainer.

The time a single session in a school takes varies from school to school. Preparing earlier help the teacher to manage the time that he has been given in a single session. The document will guide the teacher in knowing what he is supposed to teach in a particular session so that he would manage time.

In a hockey training sessions, there is the theory part and the practical part which is done in the field. A well-prepared teacher will know when to go to the field and when to remain in class. The document will help a teacher to know what to carry when meeting a certain group; this may include books, balls or hockey sticks.

Teaching may be a hard process, but it may be simplified if one prepares for the session well and in time. When writing the lesson plan, the teacher will also be prepared for any questions that may arise from the subtopic he or she would cover during that day. This will also raise the confidence of the teacher hence his instructions would be well understood by the students.

There may come a time when a trainer is unable to offer training any more due to issues such as health problems. The trainer who would replace him or her will not have a hard time identifying what has been taught and what has not been taught because he or she will be guided by the documents that the previous trainer left, hence a smooth transition.

Having the document also makes teaching more objectives-oriented hence the trainer will not just offer instructions to the trainee, but he will have goals in mind that he wants to achieve at the end of a session. It will also be easy for a trainer to know if his objectives have been achieved.

Keeping a record of what has been achieved and not achieved in an essential thing in training. A teacher should always keep a record of what he has taught and state whether his or her objectives were achieved or not. Lesson planning will help a trainer to keep track of all the essentials. He or she will know what he had taught when he taught and to which group.

Planning also helps the trainer to prepare tests that are suitable for the training group. It may not be fair for a teacher to test on topics that he or she has not covered. A trainer is also supposed to check the areas that his or her students are weak or strong after performing an evaluation or formative evaluation.
