Since the olden days, people have practiced hunting. Stone Age period is the era hunting can be traced back to. Spears and stones were among the weapons used for the job at the time. The evidence of equipment used has been collected from archaeological site. Animal bones and equipment used are some of the evidences available. Paintings are also available from archeological sites indicating how people chased animals until they were close enough to be stabbed and killed with crude weapons. As time went by people began moving to other parts of the world. This led to the learning of new ways to hunt animals. But even with that the original hunting way did not change. This was practiced mainly for survival. It provided food for people to eat. One of the methods used was trapping.

The trapping was invented in order to capture small animals like rabbits, squirrels, and birds. There was the use of sticky substances that were applied on tree branches and when bird landed on the trees they would be stuck. Later on people came to collect them. The bait was the seeds that bird liked to feed on. Squirrels and rabbits were in most cases caught by the use of nets among other animal traps.

Afterwards the hunting evolved from just a survival technique to a sport. Recreational hunting was practiced mostly in the Roman and the Greek empires. Hunting was mainly for the rich people who conducted the activity while on horse backs with arrows and bows. Animals hunted included wild pigs and deer. The people in this era had domesticated some animals which they could feast on so the hunting was just a leisure activity

It also served as a rite of passage. Children would be transformed into adults through hunting. This was done in some parts of the world especially in Africa. This practice is done in many communities. A young was sent to the forest for the purpose of killing a lion. This was a proof to show that they are men. Many young men were killed by wild animals as this was termed to be a dangerous thrill.

Fishing is also a form of hunting that involves trapping or killing sea animals. It has been practiced across the world especially for people living near water bodies such as oceans, lakes among others. It was an important practice that oversaw many inventions to happen around it. It led to development of baskets which were used to trap the fish. This led to the invention of spinning and weaving.

The evolution and development of the world was as a result of spinning and weaving which was a vital cultural practice. Most traditional people identify it as a creative cultural activity. Swimming was learnt in this process. Canoes and boats were also invented. Water transport came to existence because of man being able to travel across water.

There has been an evolution in the water transport leading to the creation of yachts and cruises. People have now ventured in water adventures such as cruising widening the list of activities exercised for recreational purposes. Swimming helps one to keep fit and improving of health.
