A bat is smooth sporting club that is used in sports like cricket, baseball and softball. Most bats are made of either wood or metal depending with type of sport. Wooden bats are considered ideal for baseball gaming activities. The bat is used to hit the ball when it is thrown by the pitcher. Most manufactures prefer use of ash type of wood when making wooden bat. Hickory, bamboo, and maple are examples of other tree species that can be used to make wooden bat. Flexibility given to a player is determined by the type of material used. Hickory slows down a bat, making the tree species not preferable.

In wooden bat, the weaker sides are the ones where labels are placed. In this way the label remains facing either the ground or the sky after a striking the ball. This reduces the chances for the bat to get fractured after striking the ball and enabling the player to use more energy to strike the ball.

The ease with which the bat develops a fracture can be an attribute that can be used in selecting an appropriate material for a wooden bat. The kind of fracture wholly depends on the type of wood. In ash type, for example the label is usually located where the grain is widest while for the maple type it is placed where the grain is tight. It this kind of difference that is responsible for the difference in fracture susceptibility in a bat.

Bats are either to be hollowed or corked. The filling of a bat with, wild material especially cork is known as corking. Corking is a setback when it comes to the game because it increases how fast the club moves. This lessens the hitting power of a player, making it easier for the pitcher to outdo their opponents.

The durability of a bat is determined with the kind of material used in making the bat. The lifespan of a bat can be increased because of the proper maintenance and care an individual gives to the bat. After a training session or a match, it is vital for an individual to clean the bat using alcohol or other suitable liquids.

The wooden bat just like any other type of bat are made according to the age of a player. Older players play with superior bats compared to the younger players. For instance, the bat to be used by a 12-year old player is to be with a diameter of about 57 mm. In comparison to clubs used by elite players, this is about 15mm less.

The suitability of a wooden bat can also be determined by the hitters taste and preference. Some hitters prefer clubs that have weight to those that are lightweight. Other factors such as the physicality of a player and grip that a player is talented with can also determine the choice of the bat. Besides these factors, there are many others that play a role in the choice of a bat.
