Cavalier King Charles spaniel is a small companion dog, up to 13 inches tall and the weight is usually between 13 and 18 pounds. In any case, try to buy a dog from dependable breeder, to make sure your pet doesn't have any genetic disease or some other health issue. All pure-breed dogs are prone to some breed-specific genetic diseases, and for spaniels, these diseases are hip dysplasia, MVD, SM and dry-eye condition.

So called dry-eye condition can be easily fixed by administering eye drops on regular daily basis. This is actually one immune system disease that affects eyes, and leads to a reduction of tears. Genetic diseases such as Mitral Valve disease, or shortly MVD, can be quite dangerous and that's why it is important to check all puppies very early.

Active dogs won't get weight so easily, but the ones that mostly spend time in your lap, could. Average King Charles spaniel needs one cup of really good quality dry dog food every day, or less, in two meals, not all at once. If you can tell your pet is too fat anyway, provide him with less food or more activities. These dogs are really friendly, especially with children.
