It really is just the safety that parents are concerned about. There are less chances of punch and kick accidents that can occur, and maybe even some elders can interpret contact sports are violent.

Like all physical activity this requires the right amount of warm ups and getting used to. Stretching and cool down exercises are also necessary so that muscles do not become sore after practice. Like anything that requires practice, this is also a great way to exercise critical thinking and real time strategy. Playing enough can help you observe certain play styles of your opponent and work a way around that.

Hand eye coordination is an important skill that many do not appreciate. This helps with reflexes too. Although you would not become anywhere near super hero skills, but at least you would less likely be clumsy. Even as just a spectator, the sport is still so much fun to observe and watch. Although, you may still need to learn a thing or two regarding its technicalities.
