The Fundamental Moves Of Brazilian Jiujitsu Oklahoma City

By Raymond Baker

For those who have watched UFC or other martial arts tournaments, they would see that ground game is an essential in winning a fight. The choice of ground game is mostly Brazilian Jiujitsu Oklahoma City or BJJ because this still is the best for handling opponents while lying on the back. For those who are interested in this art, here are a few fundamentals to review before going for official lessons.

Now, the very first move, which also happens to be the most basic one, is the guard or the default stance in BJJ. In the guard mode, one will be lying on his or her back with both arms and legs slightly bent going toward the core area. This is to prepare for the event of an attack from the top.

Now, the thing about this type of guard is that it can be broken if ever the opponent is a really strong one. The key here is to try to contort the body in such a way that the opponent cannot get a lock in and to get a chance to escape. The best way to do that is to assume a bridge position wherein the pelvic area is brought upward to maintain a comfy position.

Of course, bridging will not throw the opponent away to allow one to get ready for an attack. In that case, a hip escape following a bridge may be needed. To do this, simply start from the guard, lift the pelvic area upward, then twist the hips sideways sharply to get on top of the enemy.

Another arsenal to try to get out of an attack would be known as shrimping. In this move, one would try to literally assume the position of a shrimp, turning from the guard to a sideways fetus position. The difference is that shrimping involves assuming a sideways position to push the opponent away before he or she can get over.

While the defense keeps the opponents from creating damage, the attacks will finish the fight. One of the best moves to do while from a guard position is the classic triangle choke. One will literally form his or her legs in an inverted triangle position around the head of the enemy and choke him or her out.

In order to apply the triangle choke from the guard, one has to first grab one arm of the adversary and then raise the legs up. From there, put one leg on top of the back of the neck of the adversary and use the left leg to lock the legs in a triangle shape. At the same time, grab the head and pull it down until the adversary passes out.

Now, these are just some basic things that one will be learning as a beginner when he or she begins lessons. Of course, there are so many more things that one will also learn in the process. But by knowing the basics, it is possible for one to at least grasp the idea and know whether it is for him or her.
