Some Good Reasons For Buying Wetsuit Cleaner And Conditioner

By Patrick Smith

Wetsuits are quite expensive and deserve special attention. Don't think that it is enough just to rinse the salt off and your job is done. Just remember how many different things touch your suit, and the suit touches your body. Clean water simply cannot remove all the sand, urine and salt, you have to do something about this. You might consider buying a good wetsuit cleaner and conditioner.

The problem with cleaning the wet suit is the fact that it is made of neoprene. Neoprene is really sensitive to higher temperatures, and this is one of the reasons why you cannot simply place your diving suit into a washer or dryer. Instead, you need to wash it by hand, using a good, really mild shampoo designed for this purpose, with the appropriate softener.

Rinse it carefully and let it hang there for a while, to remove the majority of water. In the meantime, place a large towel on some flat surface inside your home, not outside, and not near the sun, and gently lay the suit on. Leave it to dry, inside out, for a while. When it is perfectly dry, place it carefully folded into a large plastic bag.

Every once in a while you should also consider removing wax from the surface of your wetsuit. The wax can be found on the hips, elbows and some other areas, and it should be occasionally removed. This can be simply accomplished using iron, but not the steam iron. Take a towel or an old rug as well, to help you with this.

The temperature should be adjusted on very low, for example on nylon. Now, place your suit on the table and cover the waxed area with the towel. Glide the iron over the towel. The wax will transfer on the towel. Remember that you should be very careful doing this. And another thing, you must avoid touching rubber seals and zippers. They could be damaged or melted.

Your wetsuit might also smell quite terribly. The material the suit is made of, the neoprene, absorbs different smells quite efficiently. Considering the fact this suit gets in touch with urine, among other things, it is often quite unappealing. Different mild shampoos designed for washing such diving suits have the ability to neutralize and remove such smells really efficiently.

The loss of elasticity affects more than your comfort. It affects the longevity of your suit as well. If it loses its elasticity, it will be much easier to rip it or to stretch it. That's why it is advisable to use a good conditioner, or a cleaner combined with conditioner. Higher temperatures are really bad for your diving equipment, and you need to keep it somewhere protected.

So, if you want to keep your wetsuit in the best possible condition, make sure to buy a good cleaner and conditioner. This will be really small investment to make, and, considering the price of your diving suits, it will be worth it. You will save some money, feel more comfortable and you will also smell much better, and this is certainly something to look forward to.
