The speed of reading can be improved just like any other skill. Fast reading allows you to cover more over a short period of time, enhances your career and offers better experiences to a reader. It is not only about the speed. You need to easily understand what you read and make it easier for your listeners to comprehend whatever you are delivering.

Return to childhood pointer method. This method is common with children as they learn to read at a tender age. Most people abandon the method with age but it has been proven to offer excellent results. Pointing increases your ability to concentrate since your focus remains on the single sentence or line in your passage. It is also referred to as hand pacing and is approved by experts.

Scan and preview. The idea behind this technique is to get the main point or central idea in the passage. Your interest remains the numbers, trigger words and names. You will also identify key sentences in a paragraph or a section. With practice, you can skim and comprehend an entire page within seconds. It is mainly used when searching for particular information or when the general idea in the story is already known.

Word grouping is difficult to learn but very beneficial. It works by focusing on word groups instead of each word at a time. With this technique, you will reduce the number of stops made by your eyes as you read. The minute you begin taking chunks of words at a time, your ability to comprehend increases naturally.

There are software that are used in training on reading speed. They come with excellent features that allow monitoring of performance through exercises, tests and streamlining to drop unproductive behavior. The apps offer different learning methods to enable you master speed in different circumstances. Monitoring gives you an idea of the areas where there are difficulties to enable you take corrective measures.

Like any other skill, you will be required to read more often in order to master. Identify materials like passages, books, notes, etc that suit your target skill mastery. Practice in different environments like under low or artificial light, in the morning, evening, at night, outdoors, etc Work on improving your speed by practicing on regular basis.
