Useful Information Regarding Gator Hunts

By Michael Evans

Gators are different in many ways because of the environment that they live in. The techniques for hunting them are also different from those of other animals since they live in a different environment. Over the years, there are a number of hunting techniques which have been established and perfected. However, most people in different States prefer some techniques over others. This is worth knowing about Gator hunts.

There are some techniques that have been totally outlawed because of the manner in which they kill the predators. Such techniques are usually considered to be inhumane and thus unsuitable for use. For instance, in the state of Florida, the use of any kind of firearm has been outlawed. Those that are found using guns to hunt alligators are subject to serious legal action.

Similarly, using baited hooks has been outlawed in Florida and some few states. Every state has different legislation. As such, a person ought to master the rules in the respective states before hunting. One is to begin by gaining knowledge on the type of weapons and methods that they are permitted to use.

Gator hunting is a highly regulated activity in the whole of the United States. Respective states are responsible for regulating hunting within their borders. That means that tags and licenses for hunting are issued by the states. Tags are issued in form of a lottery to eliminate bias. As such, those who get to hunt are chosen fairly. Some of the people that receive the tags are seasoned veterans while others receive them for their fast time.

Encountering an alligator can be quite dangerous and may even lead to death or grave injury. These animals are apex predators characterized by huge pointed teeth. They have a strong grip, with the ability to crush any human bone. Though they do not chase after humans, they may consume any lifeless body that they find.

When going to hunt gators, one needs to prepare themselves properly. One should not go alone to the activity for safety reasons. The person can be accompanied by fellow hunters or just friends who are interested in watching the process. In case one does not find it necessary to go with friends, they are advised to hunt where other hunters are hunting.

First step that one needs to do before they start hunting is to identify the area they will be hunting. This includes places like bushes, swamps or near water bodies. These animals can thrive anywhere provided there is access to food and water. On reaching the hunting area, one is supposed to conduct a visual scan of the area. This is to make sure all gators in the area are visible and accounted for.

Alligators have natural camouflage. This implies that they are not easily seen when they hide in their habitat. It is therefore important to account for each alligator and wait for the perfect time to strike. If a human being comes close to them, gators tend to flea in most cases. As such, the hunter has to stay in hiding while they wait for the ideal moment to strike.
