Strategies For A Fruitful Wild Boar Hunt In Texas

By Sandra Olson

Across Texas, boars are becoming a menace due to their rapid growth from better breeding grounds. They have become a menace to farmers and domestic animals considering that they anything that comes on their way. As such, the state has allowed people to hunt them down in a bid to reduce their numbers to a manageable level. However, these animals cannot be hunted like rabbits, and proper gears must be used for a successful hunt. Here are tips for conducting a successful wild boar hunt in Texas.

Nothing is bewildering like finding fierce animals awaiting your arrival at a hunting ground. People get excited when they hear of hog hunting but do not know the dangers that come with the activity. As such, no matter how efficient and sharp you are in hunting, walking alone to these grounds is suicidal. Work as a team that will support each other in case everything turns wild.

You do not expect the animals to present themselves for you to kill them naively. They hide, and a lot of searches is done before a single boar can be identified. Therefore, you must be equipped with tracking tricks if you do not want to go home empty-handed. Target pond areas where they wallow or look out for tracks that are round and larger than the footsteps of deer.

At times the animals might cover up their tracks, and a different approach has to be used in bringing them out of their hiding place. Purchase a predator call from the nearby vet store and take it with you to the hunting grounds. Assemble your team and get your weapons ready for an attack before blowing out and scaring the animals. When ready, everyone will have a chance to kill or protect the others from being harmed.

Due to aggressive hunting, boars have now stopped appearing on open areas on daytime. They feed on plants during night time, and this makes it a good time for the hunt. Buy a headlight and illuminating lamp that will be used at night times. The illuminating light will be placed at the point where you have put the bait hence helping you identify the animal when approaching.

Walking into the bush for a hunt is risky, and the right tools must be used. Knives, firearms, sharp blades and other essential tools will make the exercise easy. Assemble these tools days before the excursion and store them safely to avoid being hurt when transporting them. Also, when hunting, keep distance because the hogs might destroy you if they get you unawares.

In case you cannot notice the animals grazing around your target location, some tricks can be applied to lure them out of their hiding. Corn, nuts, and pecans attract hogs and they, cannot resist their smell no matter the time of the day. Place these baits in a point where their appearance will be of great advantage to your hunting and get ready for a catch of your lifetime.

Although hunting in Texas is done by most people, it is somehow illegal. The law protects some animals, and if you accidentally shoot them down, you are subjected to many years of imprisonment. Moreover, get a hunting permit from the authorized departments to avoid arrests and fines.
