By Catherine Wright

There is nothing quite like spending some time on the river. Nashville Harpeth river kayaking is not exactly a passive activity. Much fun is involved, and it is not possible to enjoy all this while seated the way you would in a taxi. Spending time here makes you feel refreshed and invigorated. The gentle exercise, the sunshine, and the tranquility of being with nature renew you.

As the day for the trip approaches, you will be feeling anticipative. Everyone loves it when they have something to look forward to. That being said, the excursion requires a bit of preparation. The first thing you do is to make your reservation. Then, you need to get some appropriate clothing. You must buy tops, shorts, some socks, and a headband. The band serves no real purpose, but every boat rider wears them.

Perhaps, you will be spending the whole weekend kayaking. You might expend a lot of energy, and people will need to eat at some point. Plan lunch. The taste of every person is different, but if you will be on the trip with others, it helps to pack items everyone will enjoy. Candy bars, sandwiches, potato salad, and trail mix are some of the food items you might pack.

Being on the water involves a lot of getting wet. Some parts of the journey might get cold. Some locations on the trip might seem like the bottom of a deep canyon. Your teacher no doubt told you that cold air sinks to the bottom while warm air rises. At the bottom, you expect it could be chilly. Bring along some hot drinks.

There are a lot of objects shuck as laptops and mobile phones that do not like being anywhere near water. It is a good idea not to bring any item that you treasure and which you would hate to lose. For your photos, bring a spare device if you have one. Bring only those possessions you could throw into the river anytime.

Even on a cloudy day, there is always the occasional burst of sunshine. This creates a glare on the river water which can hurt your precious eyes. If one wears glasses, and they need them for the trip, then they need to bring them. However, you must come up with some way of securing them on your head. For the rest of the team, goggles are items you should have carried with you.

Before you get into the boat, you are advised to put on a life jacket and a helmet. You might not like how you look in these kinds of clothing items, but you need to heed the advice of your guide. Someone could fall into the river, and these pieces will ensure they are safe before you fish them out.

Accidents can and do happen anytime anywhere. They have a way of happening when you least expect them, such as when you are cruising down this amazing river. There could be rocks under the kayak, and you might hurt yourself badly if you were to hit them. If you fell, aim your feet at them. It is better to have them encounter the rocks and not your head.
